MTI Tests First V 42 with Seven Marine 557 Engines

Earlier this month, Tim Gallagher—sales and marketing manager for Marine Technology Inc.—joined a pair of Seven Marine representatives—John Litjens and Steve Lippincott—for an expanded test session on Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks in the company’s new V 42 with triple Seven Marine 557 engines. And according to Gallagher, the first 42-footer from the Wentzville, Mo., company to feature a set of the 557-hp outboard engines was a complete pleasure to drive.

Gallagher, who emphasized that a variety of propellers—a truckload to be exact—were used throughout the multiple-day testing process, said the center console reached a spectacular 83 mph with the three 6.2L supercharged small-block V8s mounted on the transom. The boat is the first to be built with three outboards—all of the preceding 42-footers from the factory have four Mercury Marine engines.

“Obviously everyone here has been looking forward to doing a Seven Marine project, it was just a matter of finding the right customer who was ready to order a boat so we could do it,” said Gallagher, who praised the Seven Marine crew for its effort and time spent dialing in the boat. “Not only are we impressed with how the boat responded to the power, the customer is very happy with the performance as well.

2014 Super Boat International Key West World Championships

Marine Technology Inc. is thrilled to see so many MTI’s dominating the SBI Offshore Racing circuit! Make sure to keep an eye out for the MTI Mecca this weekend, as the Super Boat World Championships are set to start in Key West! Teams to watch include: BROADCO Offshore Racing, AutoNation/Racing for Cancer, CMS Offshore Racing, Team Warpaint, Marine Concepts Real Speed Offshore Racing, and potentially more to come!

Countdown to Key West: Racing For Cancer Team Shooting for Top-Three FinishDSC_0674

With a cockpit pairing best described as a cagey veteran and a talented rookie, the Racing for Cancer/AutoNation team of throttleman/owner Randy Sweers of Fastboats Marine Group and driver Jeff Bentley, who joined the team after the Super Boat International offshore race in Sarasota, Fla., in July are heading into the SBI World Championships in Key West, Fla., in less than two weeks with the goal of a top-three overall finish. To that end, Sweers, Bentley and their crew are repowering their 41-foot Marine Technology, Inc., catamaran with brand-new 750-hp engines from Ilmor Marine. (The team formerly ran engines from Potter Performance Engines in Bradenton, Fla.).

“We have a great set of brand-spanking-new motors for our raceboat—the same engines Broadco and Cleveland Construction have—and the first one arrived two or three hours ago,” said Sweers, who entered the offshore racing world in 1995, in a telephone interview this afternoon. “We are finally going to have the same horsepower that everyone else has. We’re rigging a lot of stuff right now—we’re going through the boat completely, and we’re putting in a secondary intercom system.

MTI Mecca Makes Way For National Championship In ClearwaterCountdown To Key West: Broadco Will Take Aggressive Approach

Fresh from a “shakedown run” earlier today in the Broadco Superboat-class catamaran Marine Technology, Inc., catamaran on Florida’s Sarasota Bay, throttleman and team manager Grant Bruggemann said he is feeling confident about his team’s chances in the Super Boat International Key West Offshore World Championships early next month. The 40-foot MTI catamaran has a pair of new 750-hp engines from Ilmor Marine, as well as recently rebuilt drives.

Though Broacdo finished second to Stihl in the 2014 SBI National Championship chase, the cockpit duo of owner/driver Chuck Broaddus and Bruggemann ran a full schedule of races this season. That, plus several close contests with the Stihl, has the Broadco team well prepared for the upcoming battle in Key West, said Bruggemann.
