Although it’s hard to imagine that anything following Friday’s depressing turn of events (read the story) could lead to highlights, there’s no denying that Saturday’s eighth annual Pirates of Lanier Poker Run in Buford, Ga., had plenty of good things to focus on. From the remarkable variety of go-fast boats, cruisers, tow boats and more to the solid turnout of spectator boats, the high-spirited post-run party and the incredible amount of money donated for charity, the event was over the top.
It was my first time at the massive poker run, which attracted more than 300 entries this year, and I was in awe of the hospitality, the camaraderie and, once again, the generosity of everyone, including the volunteers, board members and participants who spent thousands of dollars to attend the run in the first place.
Poker runs don’t tend to have much of a “story” to them and, as the saying goes, pictures are worth a thousand words, so I’ll let the slideshow below featuring two dozen of my favorite images from Saturday do the talking.
